The wind energy farms which are growing fast in Tippecanoe County but some of the people are against the proposal which would set up more wind energy farms due to noise. Julie Peretin, resident of county said this is not like a mosquito noise but it is all about the class of life. The turbine which would produce noise as much as 50 decibels any time of day has been opposed by Peretin and other neighbors.
The non-participating land owner is responsible to approve the wind turbine construction and also not issued the wind farm developer rights. The vote for the proposal which was expected on Monday has been postponed to 20th Dec because of few researches on the matter. The county also includes an input from consultant out of Chicago says Commissioner Tom Murtaugh. The ordinance was approved by the commissioners in August taking the noise limit of the wind turbine to 45 decibels which was requested to make it to 35 decibels by Peretin.
The representatives of wind energy companies expected wind turbine to make it 50 decibel from 45 decibels but the commissioners expect the wind ordinance to stay strictest in the state. The Performance Services located in Carmel is expected to build 25 turbine wind farm in northwest part of the county on 2,500 acres. Chicagos Invenergy Wind LLC is expected to set up 133 turbines in southwestern part of Tippecanoe County. The 50 decibels of sound will be like a sound from a washing machine says Purdue’s audiology department.
Carmen Krogh, the board member in The Society for Wind Vigilance said the noise level is not the only problem and he has been gathering details about people worldwide who have faced health issues due to wind turbines. Debra Preitkis-Jones the American Wind Energy Association spokeswoman said wind plants are quiet that is what developers wants it to be.
