Tom Gage, the CEO of AC Propulsion has said that the company is expecting to double its production of electric vehicle drive systems in China. The company expects to allocate around 65% capacity to China sales because the country has lot of car companies who are looking for electric vehicle technology, he added. The government is also concentrating on adding more number of electric vehicles on the road.
This announcement made by the AC Propulsion is also reminds that China is introducing itself as a battery-powered powerhouse even though the focus in on the launch of United States mass-market electric cars. But Tom Gage said that the Chinese government is planning for $15 billion on their plan to build the electric car manufacturing capacity in the country.
The automakers from all around the world are also planning to introduce their electric vehicles to China because of this plan from AC Propulsion. General Motors is also planning to introduce its Chevrolet Volt electric hybrid in China and Nissan Motor is also having the same plan as they are planning to introduce electric Leaf in China. There is already an announcement from Toyota Motor that they are planning to perform an electric car better research in China and Mitsubishi Motors are among others who are planning for the sale of its iMiEV electric car in Beijing.
Tom Gage said that Chinese government is looking for local production and also joining hands with the Chinese manufacturers, but the partnership will not have any transfer of core technology that will be related to the electric vehicle drive system because of the condition of receiving financial incentives for developing a factory at Beijing. The production equipment will be manufactured by AC Propulsion for making the electric drives at California headquarters, San Dimas and also shift the machines to China.
