MCV achieves new height


With the introduction of Megacity Vehicle (MCV) in 2013 the BMW Group expects to achieve new heights as it is a revolutionary automobile. The MCV will become the first volume-produced vehicle in the world including the passenger cell which is made up of carbon. Their LifeDrive architecture is expected to support the group to achieve new things in the automotive design.


Klaus Draeger, the Member of Board of Management for the Development said this idea will make them very easily decrease the additional weight of the electrically powered vehicles by around 250-350 kg and the drive system will be the main part of the car and it will be same for the electric vehicle too. The powertrains contains a core area of expertise of the Bayerische Motoren Werke, he added. The hallmark BMW pleasure of driving and the electromobility will provide a good competition if it goes as planned for which they are building a powertrain for the MCV, he added.


The vehicle electrification needs few latest ideas in creating the architecture and body of the vehicle to develop the new emission-free drive system perfectly and along LifeDrive, the engineers of BMW Group designing the car from the beginning. The BMW Group is mainly concentrating on the innovative high-tech material which is known as carbon fiber reinforced plastic. The LifeDrive also includes 2 horizontally divided separate modules.


The Drive module also includes the drive system, battery, structural and crash functions under the single construction in the Chassis. The Life module also includes CFRP made high-strength and very lightweight passenger cell. The design for new vehicle is also the beginning of a new production process that will be flexible and utilize less energy. The Megacity Vehicle design also provides additional liberty to the vehicle designers to create new artistic for the sustainable urban mobility solutions
